History

in 1879 gave merchant Lauritz S its collection of Antiquities and antiques to Maribo municipality. Thus was the concept of the Museum in Maribo a reality. The collection was initially exhibited at the city's Town Hall and was called "Maribo Antiqvitetssamling". The exhibition opened with approximately 400 objects in the summer of 1880, but there came more quickly, since the island's population began donating gifts to the collection.
